Toyota recalls 7.43 million vehicles globally

TOKYO -- Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling 7.43 million vehicles worldwide because of a faulty power-window switch.

The recall affects more than a dozen models produced from 2005 through 2010. Toyota says the power-window switch on the driver's side didn't have grease applied evenly during production, causing friction in the switch and sometimes smoke.

No crashes or injuries have been reported related to the problem. But more than 200 problems have been reported in U.S., and a fewer number of problems were reported elsewhere, including 39 cases in Japan.

In North America, Toyota is recalling the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia and Scion models xB and xD.

Other models also are being recalled in Japan and Europe.

Coke ends production of iconic glass bottle

WINONA, Minn. - After 80 years in production, little returnable glass bottles of Coca Cola will stop rolling down the bottling line in southern Minnesota.

The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Winona, the last in the country still making the returnable 6.5 ounce bottles of Coke, ended production of all bottles Tuesday.

The last bottle popped off the line around 11:00 Tuesday morning.

About 6,000 bottles are part of the final production run of Coke in Winona. The last bottle off the line on Tuesday will go to the World Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.

"This is a very historic day," said Phillip Mooney, Chief archivist and Heritage Vice President of Coca-Cola. "For some 40 years, from 1915 to 1955, the only way you could have had a Coca-Cola was in one of these embossed glass packages (bottles). This really marks the end of an era for us."

The company says required upgrades to continue to fill and sell the bottles were not a sound business decision.

A crowd of about 80 people, many local dignitaries, Coke distributors from the mid-west and Coke Memorabilia collectors from across the country, gathered to watch the final bottles come off the production line.

Coke Collector's Club President Dick McChesney explained the origins of the uniquely shaped bottle. "(It) was created by Coca-Cola in 1915 by the Root Glass Company in Terre Haute, Indiana. They wanted a bottle that would replace all of the bottles of colors and sizes that they had. The line was: even a blind person wants to know that they are holding a Coke bottle."

The Winona bottler employs 14 workers full-time. All of them will keep their jobs. Since, Clint Kuhlman founded the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Winona in 1932, four generations of his family have worked at the Franklin Street plant.

"My wife's father built this building," explained Leroy Telstad, Vice President and General Manager. "Her father still comes into work every day at 86. He has been in uniform for 64 years now."

Maeve Peterson, the founder's great granddaughter, moved 24-bottle cases of the empty vintage bottles just like the three generations of the family before her.

The last 6,000 bottles are to be sold in the Winona area to help finance improvements to a bicycle and pedestrian path in Winona. For collectors elsewhere who want to purchase a bottle for $20, they can go to this website.

AKRON -- A teenager is standing trial in Akron charged in a deadly scheme to lure victims with phony Craigslist job offers.

Jury selection began Tuesday morning in Akron for 17-year-old Brogan Rafferty of Stow.

Rafferty, who was then 16, is suspected of helping his mentor, 53-year-old Richard Beasley of Akron, lure victims with bogus job offers. Beasley will be tried separately.

Three men were killed last year in Noble County in southeast Ohio and Summit County in northeast Ohio after responding to what authorities said were bogus online job postings.

Rafferty, who is being tried as an adult, cannot face execution because he was a juvenile when the crimes occurred. Instead, he could face life in prison.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Beasley.

Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.

Columbus: Husted appeals 'early voting' to Supreme Court

COLUMBUS -- Ohio Secretary of State John Husted is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to decide if Ohio voters will be able to cast in-person ballots the weekend before Election Day.

He is appealing the ruling of a federal appeals court that allowed early voting the weekend before the Election Day.

His request will stir more emotion and controversy over the early voting issue.

The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday that election officials in each of Ohio's 88 counties could choose early voting hours.

Husted called that an "unprecedented intrusion" in the voting process.

He claimed the court's ruling could allow differerent hours in different counties.

One county could be open and a neighboring county could be closed.

"How any court could consider this a remedy for an equal protection problem is stunning," he said.

Four years ago, Democrats turned out thousands of voters on the last weekend before Election Day.

Republican lawmakers had passed laws that ended in-person weekend voters, except for military personnel.

The Obama for America campaign sued.

A District Court ruled in favor of weekend voting. The state appealed and the Appellate Court put the choice up to Election Boards.

Husted said he will discuss the issue with local elections officials and issue an order on in-person early voting for the final weekend if his appeal fails.

Terry Francona begins with Indians

Written by
Associated Press

CLEVELAND  -- Terry Francona has been introduced as manager of the Cleveland Indians, who crashed from contention this season with the worst month in franchise history.

Francona was hired over the weekend by the Indians, signing a four-year contract. The 53-year-old was chosen over Sandy Alomar Jr., who served as the club's final six games after Manny Acta was fired. Francona takes overs an Indians team that went 68-94, the third time in the past four seasons they have lost at least 90 games.

Francona led Boston to two World Series titles and five straight playoff appearances. He was not brought back by the Red Sox following the team's historic September collapse in 2011.

He previously worked in Cleveland's front office, and Francona said the chance to work again with close friends was the most intriguing aspect of managing the Indians.

Menjelaskan Persoalan Tomcat

Written By kolimtiga on Jumat, 30 Maret 2012 | 20.24

Menjelaskan Persoalan Tomcat Pulau Bali mulai diserang tomcat.

Makanya masyarakat kena,” ungkap dia.

Upaya pencegahannya jika tertempel tomcat, imbuh Sutedja, cukup ditiup saja.

Kumbang ini bahkan pernah membuat pusing tentara AS Menjelaskan Persoalan Tomcat
