Bedford: Police charge man in fatal accident

BEDFORD -- Regarding the two-vehicle crash just before 10 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Northfield Road and Berwyn Drive, police have now charged a Warrensville Heights man.

Police have charged Eric Calhoun, 48, of Warrensville Heights with four counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and Bedford Municipal Court set his bond at $1 million.

Other charges are pending.

The additional fourth charge is for the unborn baby.

A Maple Heights mother and two of her daughters were killed in the crash. Police say Calhoun ran a red light and slammed into the vehicle with a 30-year-old mother and her four children inside.

The pregnant mother, Maria Thorpe, and two of her children, Zariah Roberts, 8, and Zayanah Roberts, 5, died from the crash, as did her unborn child.

Another 12-year-old was treated and released from the hospital and police say Monday that the 10-year-old is still listed in critical condition and is on a ventilator as of noon Monday.

Calhoun is being taken to Cuyahoga County Jail and will be arraigned in Common Pleas Court.

The 10 year old that was transported to an area hospital is still reported in critical conditionof this release.
