WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS -- Promising thousands of new jobs and faster tracked big transportation projects, Gov. John Kasich signed his budget transportation bill in Warrensville Heights this morning.
Kasich signed the legislation at Tendon Manufacturing, a specialty parts machine shop that has customers involved with road and bridge projects.
Kasich had considered selling or leasing the Ohio Turnpike to get needed revenue for road and bridge projects. But he ended up adopting a plan to sell bonds backed by the Turnpike.
The bill will deliver a minimum estimated 65,000 new jobs. It provides $3 billion for long range transportation infrastructure. Ninety percent of the projects receiving assistance will be in northern Ohio within 75 miles of the Turnpike.
The bill had bi-partisan support. Lawmaker Bill Patmon, a Democratic, said it's about jobs and safe transportation which are not Democratic or Republican issues.
Senior Political Correspondent Tom Beres will have more on the transportation bill beginning on Channel 3 News at 6 p.m.
