Sandusky: 2 kayakers missing, search underway

SANDUSKY -- Two kayakers are missing Sunday morning. 

Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth tells Channel 3 the two went missing sometime Saturday evening near Crystal Rock an area of the Sandusky Bay.

Sheriff Sigsworth said they received at call at 5:20 a.m. Sunday morning for a missing male and his 12-year- old daughter. The two were supposed to kayak from Crystal Rock to the Edison bridge and back.

The Ottawa  County Sheriff Office located the kayaks abandoned around 9:30 a.m. just north of Crystal Rock on the Ottawa county side of the bay.

The United States Coast Guard added that they recovered a pair of camouflage boots.

The father's girlfriend reported the two missing. Sheriff Sigsworth will not release the names of the missing pending notification of their relatives.

The United States Coast Guard, Margaretta Fire Department, Port Harbor Fire Department, Erie County Sheriff's Office and Ottawa County Sheriffs office are all currently looking for the two in the Sandusky Bay area.
