AKRON -- For the second day, rescue crews are searching for a missing 12-year-old boy who was swept away in a creek off Akron Peninsula Road.
Nic Shaffer, who has autism, was reportedly dipping his toes into the water when the current swept him away Thursday afternoon.
Family members and neighbors tried to pull him to safety, but were overpowered by the current.
Nic was with his mother and sister.
Family members say Nic, who was wearing shorts but no shirt at the time, can swim but doesn't really like to.
The creek, which is located behind the home Nic lives in with his mother, is typically ankle-deep, but recent rains made the water much deeper with a stronger current.
Anybody who might spot the boy is asked to call authorities immediately.
