Geauga County: One shot dead, one critically injured

MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP -- One man is dead and another was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition after a shooting allegedly over a domestic issue.

The alleged shooter, Thomas P. Hakli, 59, of Thompson, was dead at the scene on GAR Highway from an apparent self-inflicted single gunshot wound to the head.

The man who called 911 was David Misosky, 53, of Montville Township. He was taken by helicopter to MetroHealth, underwent surgery, and is listed in critical condition.

Just before 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, the Geauga County Sheriff's Office received a call of the shooting.

The caller stated that he was in the garage and that he had been shot once in the chest and that Hakli had then shot himself and was in the driveway, believed to be dead.

Deputies responded as did EMS from both Montville and Hambden Fire Departments.

No one else was present at the home at the time of the incident.

Deputies found Hakli in the driveway just outside the garage and a 9mm handgun was recovered at the scene.

The Geauga County Coroner Dr. Robert Coleman responded to the scene and will make the official ruling after the investigation and autopsy.

Crime scene investigators from Ohio BCII were brought in to assist deputies who were processing the scene.

Sheriffs Detectives continue the investigation Wednesday as to the motive.

It is believed the two men knew each other and that the shooting stemmed from Misosky's relationship with Hakli's estranged wife.
