CLEVELAND -- Cleveland Ward 2 Councilman Zack Reed was arrested in Cleveland early Tuesday morning, suspected of driving while intoxicated.
According to police, Reed has been charged with OVI, non-working light, turning position and change of court.
Reed is being held in the Cleveland City Jail but is expected to post bond and be released Tuesday. A court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
A police statement says Councilman Zach Reed was arrested in downtown Cleveland about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday after running a red light and making an improper turn.
Police say he failed a sobriety test.
Reed served a 10-day sentence in 2008 on his second drunken-driving conviction.
The 52-year-old Reed has served on the council for 13 years.
Council President Martin Sweeney said council will investigate the facts and decide what action is appropriate.
Under a council rule, it has the power to "punish or expel any member for disorderly conduct or violation of its rules."
Such action would require would require approval of two thirds of council, That works to 13 of 19 votes.
Reed is sponsoring legislation to outlaw hands-on cell phone use in Cleveland.
Phone and email messages seeking comment from Reed when he's available were left at his City Hall office.
