CLEVELAND -- Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in Thursday night's game against the Buffalo Bills.
The Browns say Hoyer has a torn ligament in his right knee.
Hoyer, who started the year as Cleveland's third-string quarterback, had led the Browns to two straight victories. He suffered the injury at the end of an 11-yard scramble in the first quarter of the Browns-Bills game. His knee buckled when he was hit by a Bills linebacker.
Hoyer had been given the starting quarterback job after Brandon Weeden was sidelined with an injured thumb.
Hoyer is a native Northeast Ohioan and quickly endeared himself to fans.
Weeden came into the game to replace Hoyer last night and helped lead the Browns back on their way to a third straight victory and a lead in the AFC North.
The Browns are 3-2 on the season.
